Popularity of building materials is important in the real estate market since shops tend to promote what sells more. An alternative material, possibly equally good, would find it difficult to break into this circle and would either end up with low sale volume or higher price. Flooring has been a witness to such trends, where few materials bag most projects.
Andhra Pradesh is home to varieties of construction stones, including Tandoor, Bethamcherla, Shahbad, Cudappah and such, which make excellent floors. Most of them derive their name from the place of origin and are transported across South India based on orders....
It’s important to waterproof your terrace before you take up terrace gardening in any Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) structures. At the area selected for gardening, the slab porosity is to be checked for leakage. Field experts can check weak points where pressure grouting is done, i.e., holes are drilled into the RCC slabs and, through nozzles; cement neat slurry is forced into them. The foam formed fills all the holes, making the concentration of the slab denser.
The weakest point is the 90-degree angle where the floor meets the parapet wall where waterproofing is paramount. ‘Coving’ is a procedure done here with a cement-polymer mix used for reinforcing these junctions. Waterproofing plaster is applied at pipe intersections, sealing all the gaps where the pipe and the roof meet. Slopes are prepared for new buildings, but for existing ones adequate drainage has to be worked out for getting rid of excess water.
Amongst the water-proofing systems, the traditional Brick Bat Coba (BBC) consists of putting brick bats on roofs to give a slope and then grout the same with mortar admixed with various proprietary chemicals. In newly constructed houses, it provides a good slope at a moderate cost, so that the water drains away. In Bitumen’s Membrane Coating, the membrane is manufactured using organic liquids that are highly sticky and viscous that makes the surface waterproof. It protects buildings from the adverse effects caused due to constant exposure....
Solar rays are penetrating deeper into our lives. Solar energy is making forays into new sectors of human existence — homes, livelihood, appliances, transport and construction. Solar lanterns, heaters, street lights and cookers are passé. They were first generation applications. Now the frontiers have extended beyond heating and lighting.
Innovators are looking at taking the green and inexhaustible source of energy to areas undreamt of in the past. The energy generated from photovoltaic cells and films is now powering pumps, farm operations and crematoriums, guarding critical data stores and helping distillation and effluent plants. While Karnataka proposes to install solar power units to the tune of 200 MW by 2015-16, a number of technology companies are already into the arena with equipment and gizmos running on solar power that kick off dependence on the erratic grid power, guzzling fossil fuels.

Planning in Detail is Vital Before Obtaining a Home Loan
Banks and HFCs are increasingly getting strict with their customers, insisting that they obtain a “clean chit” from CIBIL (Credit Information Bureau (India) Ltd.) proving their credit history because, in their quest to own a house many people resort to all kinds of activities which can land them in trouble eventually.
Bhaktavalsalan, AGM, Can Fin Homes Ltd. Jayanagar Branch, Bangalore (a housing finance company) narrated a recent customer's case who had applied for a home loan. A prospective borrower had applied for a loan submitting relevant documents. Since his case seemed genuine he was given an ‘in-principle' sanction letter. But when his credit credentials were verified with CIBIL before the loan was to be disbursed it was observed that he had taken a loan of a few lakhs from a private bank just a week ago. The person had invested none of his own money into the house and had planned to live fully on borrowed terms....

The person had invested none of his own money into the house and had planned to live fully on borrowed terms. Such cases can create a huge problem for the entire lending and borrowing system of banking which eventually can lead to NPAs besides landing customers themselves in repayment problems.
It is true that we all dream to live in our own houses, but one has to prudently plan for such investments. First of all the home loan budget has to be calculated based on the investable surplus of an individual. The next step will be to decide on the affordability. The current surplus will give clarity of such affordability. Additionally one can also add the value of current assets by jotting down a few aspects such as:...
