Luxury homes back on buyers wish list

Fancy crore plus price tags in the real estate market are back in fashion after almost a year. Not only tier-I locations, such as Mumbai and Bangalore, but tier-II or tier-III cities, such as Ahmedabad and Nagpur, are also witnessing sizeable chunk of niche luxury projects. In the past six months alone, there has been about 20-25% rise in premium residential projects in these locations.

A string of developers, including the Lodhas, Hiranandanis, Prestige, Sobha, Indiabulls and DB Realty, have floated several luxurious schemes in an attempt to cash in on the rise in confidence among investors and end users.

There is a sudden spurt in the Rs 4.5 crore plus properties. For instance, about 7,000 fresh residential units are expected to hit the market in central Mumbai Parel Prabhadevi Sewri Worli alone, said Anand Narayanan, national director, Residential Agency, Knight Frank India, a global real estate consultant....

Hdil posts 187% jump in q4 net

Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd HDIL has posted a 187 per cent jump in profit after tax in the January-March quarter of FY 10. The company has posted a net profit of Rs 177.84 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2010 as compared to Rs 61.92 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2009.

Total Income increased from Rs 388.77 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2009 to Rs 464.46 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2010.

However, for the financial year 2009-10, the company posted a 28.15 per cent fall in net profit at Rs 596.65 crore for the year ended March 31, 2010 as compared to Rs 830.43 crore for the year ended March 31, 2009. Total Income decreased from Rs 1,814.57 crore for the year ended March 31, 2009 to Rs 1,599.58 crore for the year ended March 31, 2010....

Omaxe sees surge in profits

New Delhi-based property developer Omaxe Ltd reported a profit of Rs45.12 crore in the three months ended 31 March, compared with a loss of Rs41.62 crore a year earlier, as it benefited from increased demand from buyers in small cities. Net sales increased almost sixfold to Rs378.20 crore in the term from Rs64.01 crore in the year-ago period, Omaxe said.

For the full fiscal, Omaxe net profit more than doubled to Rs112.54 crore from Rs46.72 crore in the previous 12 months. Net sales for the year ended 31 March rose to Rs1, 001.2 crore from Rs798.7 crore in the previous fiscal. “Fiscal 2010 has been comparatively much better from fiscal 2009 for various reasons. The sales have improved considerably and especially in the tier II and III cities..,” said chairman and managing director Rohtas Goel.

Property developers are emerging from the downturn of 2008-09 that hurt demand for houses and apartments and caused prices to drop. Accelerating economic growth has led to renewed demand in the real estate sector. Omaxe Ebitda earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization margin, a key measure of operating profitability, rose to 19.6 per cent in 2009-10 from 18.5 per cent in 2008-09....

Builders threaten stir, wants dues cleared

The Builders Association of India, Andhra Pradesh Chapter, has pleaded with the Andhra Pradesh Government to clear their pending dues totalling about Rs 5,000 crore, failing which they will be forced to launch an agitation.

They are planning a maha dharna in the city on June 4 to press for their pending dues from over the past seven months. Over 600 contractors will take part in the dharna. The dues cover Rs 4,000 crore of the irrigation works and Rs 1,000 crore of the road projects.

The Chairman of the BAIAP Chapter, Mr A. Sudhaker Reddy, told Business Line, “The contractors are facing a lot of difficulties in continuing works and are subjected to pressure from the bankers and creditors to clear the pending dues....

Land prices skyrocket in sanand on nano arrival
